Call for submissions

Karakana Initiative invites artists, creatives and designers for submissions to be part of the Kesho Afrika Festival 2023. Karakana creates platforms especially for young and up-coming artists to showcase their work, skills and talents. From this standpoint, we do not offer any monetary compensation for displaying your work or for any showcase or live performances. Kindly ensure your work falls under at least one of the four main thematic areas.

Festival Categories

We invite interested artists and creatives to be part of the 2023 Festival under the following main categories:

  1. Visual Art: paintings, graffiti (live at festival), drawings, illustrations digital art, mixed media:

  2. Crafts and Designs: Jewelry, accessories, house items, apparel, and related

  3. Conceptual Photography: Creative imaginary or experimental concepts exploring the festival themes

  4. Graphic Design: Visual communication concepts and digital designs that can be printed,

  5. Live performances: Poetry, live music, spoken word, story-telling, book reading, percussion, traditional instruments, folk music

  6. Body art/Face Art and fashion related

  7. Augmented Reality, Virtual reality, animations and related

NOTE: Karakana Initiative will not take commissions on any art/items sold during the festival or visual art exhibitions

How to submit applications

Email your up-to-date CV and portfolio to info@karakanaonline.org -with visuals of your work, If they are too heavy to attach, please share as Google Drive Link or equivalent. Paintings, illustrations and digital art for exhibition should have full details (title, dimensions, description and price).

DEADLINE for submissions is 6th October 2023.
